An explanation of our logo’s symbolism

Our logo reflects the balance of Indigenous wisdom: the red sun (community action), the moon (spiritual reflection), and the sacred circle (interconnectedness). Together, they light the path for cultural sharing and mutual growth
1. The Red Sun (Giizis in Anishinaabemowin, etc.)
- Meaning: Vitality, life force, and energy. Red is sacred in many Indigenous cultures (e.g., the Red Road in Lakota teachings symbolizes a path of truth and connection).
- Connection: Represents the active, unifying power of the community network.
2. Orange-Yellow Circle (Enclosing the Moon)
- Meaning:
- Orange: Healing, kinship, and warmth (used in Métis beadwork and sunrise ceremonies).
- Yellow: Wisdom, sunlight, and the east direction (in Medicine Wheel teachings).
- Connection: Suggests a nurturing space where knowledge is shared.
3. White-Light Yellow Moon (Dibik-Giizis in Ojibwe, etc.)
- Meaning:
- White: Purity, ancestors, and spiritual guidance.
- Moon Cycles: Feminine energy, intuition, and the rhythm of time.
- Connection: Reflects the network’s role in honoring traditions while adapting to modern needs.
4. Black Background
- Meaning: The cosmos, potential, and the “dark earth” (in many creation stories, life emerges from darkness).
- Connection: Represents the foundation of Indigenous knowledge and the vast digital “space” the network inhabits.
